Getting to and from the Highlands
By Car
There are three main roads into the Highlands of Scotland, the A9 (Stirling-Perth-Aviemore-Inverness-Thurso), the A82 (Glasgow-Loch Lomond-Fort William-Loch Ness-Inverness) and the A96 (Aberdeen-Keith-Elgin-Nairn-Inverness).
By Bus
A number of bus operators run daily services from Glasgow, Edinburgh, Perth and Aberdeen (all with connections from other parts of the UK) to the Highlands.
By Train
The Highlands has a number of spectacular scenic train journeys as well as all the standard daily services to and from Inverness and Fort William (with stops along the way) from Glasgow, Edinburgh, Perth and Aberdeen (all with connections from major UK cities). The Caledonian Sleeper service operates from London Euston to Fort William and Inverness (not Saturday evenings) allowing you to do the long journey overnight. The Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh and the Fort William to Mallaig (steam train operates in the summer months) journeys are especially scenic and memorable.
